Today GMail as part of its continued innovation, has introduced a new Themes feature to its users. The themes feature is available as part of Settings in GMail.

See the Settings as shown below:

In that “Pebbles” is my favorite πŸ™‚ Mild and cute. Next favorite is the “Desk” theme. Some of the themes are selective based on your location as well.

Also they have introduced “Labs” feature, where in you can select and enable features/gadgets which would make your email accessing easy.

Some of the features I like were

  • Mouse gestures – In Inbox, Click and hold your right mouse button and move left and right to move to previous and next emails. Click andΒ  hold right mouse button and move up to go to inbox etc.,
  • Quick links – Adds browsable url links to your quick links section from your email for faster access
  • Google docs gadget – All your recent Google docs available right next to your inbox
  • Right side labels – If you are a big fan of labels, your list of labels might increase dramatically over a period of time 😦 . It would be tough for you to see it as a long list. Move your Labels to the right side of your screen for a detail view of it. Cool na πŸ™‚
  • Google Calendar gadget – Shows your calendar items right next to your inbox.
  • Navbar drag n drop – Drag and drop frequently used gadgets in your inbox, similar to iGoogle

There are lot more of such features. Try out these new features and let me know your comments.

Vodafone offers iPhone 3G on EMIs

Vodafone one of the two leading providers of iPhone 3G (which is one among the Gadgets to watch in 2008) in India, the other being Airtel is planning to provide it on an EMI scheme for its subscribers.

Vodafone is in talks with Barclays and ICICI Bank for this scheme. In India, the iPhone is priced at Rs. 31,000 for 8GB and Rs. 36,100 for 16GB of memory space. The schemes are based on a period of 6 to 12 months from which the subscribers can choose from. The iPhone is being sold in Hyderabad and Bangalore besides the four metropolitan cities and will be later introduced in 65 cities. The phone comes locked to the service provider, which means a user cannot switch his or her operator while using an iPhone.

The price of the iPhone 3G is kind of overpriced in India by an enormous amount, thanks to our import duty policies 😦 . The original price of the same in US being $199 (around Rs. 8800) for 8GB and $299 (around Rs. 13200) for 16GB. Also there are talks about slashing the prices six months from now. So people can make choice of either waiting for a slashed price some time later or grab it fresh ‘n’ overpriced, also considering the fact that currently there are no 3G networks in India to use the iPhone 3G to its full potential. I’ve read somewhere that BSNL is rushing out in its plans to roll out 3G in India by end of this year or early next year πŸ™‚ . So watch out this space for more details as and when it is available.

Most of the times we are lethargic in signing into different web sites. A dashboard or desktop widget comes handy in such situations.

Globe7 is a tiny application integrated with Soft Phone, IM, Videos, Games, News and many more opt-in widgets for your complete entertainment, information and communication. Using this widget, you can make PC to PC phone calls for free, PC to mobile or land line calls as well as send PC to mobile SMS throughout the world at a very meager rate.

You can review the Call rate plan, SMS rate plan which I feel is at par with other major providers.

You can watch a demo of these widgets here.

You can also check the System requirements for installing this application

Some of the features that are of some interest are the Live TV, Live Radio, Newspaper widget and the Movie Widget. Also you can get the astrology widget, recipe widget etc., and lots more which you can add in as opt-in widgets.

Some cool snapshots of the application for you
